Sea Girt 5K – Results

So today was the Sea Girt 5K; my first official race since I started training a few months ago. Overall, I’d say it was a pretty good experience in that I learned a lot about being in a race (i.e. there are a ton of people you need to make your way around). I also learned that I need to better prepare myself nutrition-wise as I felt myself running out of gas toward the end.

From a racing perspective, things were good and bad. The good is that I set a new personal best for a three-mile run at 28:31, and figure it was a bit better than that since it was actually a 3.11 mile run. It was bad in that I was shooting for better than 24 minutes, but maintaining an 8-minute mile pace for three miles proved to be a bit much for me at this point.

As far as my overall training goes, I’m up to doing 4-miles as my “routine” run, and I went 7 miles for my long distance run last weekend. I lucked out with a nice summer storm that came rolling through our area, and I ended up running in the pouring rain as the temperature dropped almost fifteen degrees – great weather conditions for staying cool!

And as another week begins, I’m back to training…
