Myrtle Beach and Augusta

So I’m back from my trip to Myrtle Beach and Augusta, and let me say we had a great time. It was a long drive through some interesting parts of South Carolina, but we all had a great time. Our first stop was Myrtle Beach. We rented a nice three-bedroom condo at Compass Cove. We enjoyed a nice dinner at P.F. Chang’s, some tasty Bloody Mary’s, and then it was time to rest up for our 36 holes of golf the next day.

Our first stop was True Blue. The day started out cool and cloudy, and we got rained on for one hole, but it soon cleared out, the sun came out, and it was gorgeous. I ended up shooting a 114, which is decent, for me. My new 3-H hybrid came in quite handy.

Afterwards, we drove across the street to Caledonia where we refueled with a quick lunch, and then headed back out to the links. What a beautiful course, complete with South Carolina wild life like alligators and turtles! I shot a 111, which is good considering Caledonia is rated more difficult than True Blue. Out of the two, I think I preferred Caledonia, but that could be because the sun was out during our second round.

Following a great day of golf, we drove to Columbia, South Carolina where we spent the night. We made a quick pitstop at Wild Wings for some dinner and to watch the NCAA finals.

Tuesday morning, we were up early (again) and it was off to Augusta, GA for the practice round of the Master’s! We saw a slew of the pro-golfers out practicing. Before anyone asks, yes, we saw Tiger Woods, but he only hit the driving range on Tuesday due to the cold and windy weather. I’ll get some pictures up in my gallery (once I figure it out). Walking the greens of Augusta is an experience I don’t think I’ll ever forget. The course is truly one of (if not) the most beautiful course in the world. With the history and prestige of the course, it was almost surreal to be walking around watching some of the greats play.

All in all, it was a great trip, and truly an experience of a life time. Now I have to sit and watch the tournament from my couch. It just won’t be the same…
